Students Create
Salmon Art
|

Artwork by Komachin Middle School
student Cody White
|
Komachin Middle School
students visited Kennedy Creek in Thurston County
to watch salmon returning to spawn. Inspired
by what they saw, the students created art and
wrote poetry to depict the salmon life cycle.
A small group of students presented their work
to the Salmon Recovery Funding
Board at its January meeting in Olympia.
|
William Ruckelshaus, chairman of
the Salmon Recovery Funding Board,
complimented the students on their work. "You need to
learn something we didn't," he said. "And that's how
to live here with salmon. You symbolize the future,
not only for us but for the fish." |

| The Salmon Recovery Funding Board was established in July 1999 by the state Legislature to help oversee the investment of state and federal funds for salmon recovery. Composed of five citizens appointed by the Governor and five state agency directors, the Board brings together the experiences and viewpoints of citizens and the major state natural resource agencies.
