| Recreation and Conservation Funding Board (RCFB) is Seeking Advisory Committee Members
The Recreation and Conservation Funding Board relies on volunteers to evaluate and score grant proposals. If you have expertise in farming, land conservation, wildlife habitat or recreation, please consider volunteering.

The state Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) needs volunteers to serve on an advisory committee to evaluate grant proposals for parks and habitat areas along the waterfront and assist with program policy development for the program.
The Aquatic Lands Enhancement Account (ALEA) advisory committee evaluates grant applications from local and state agencies to acquire, develop, and restore lands adjacent to navigable water bodies for public purposes, including access to such lands.
RCO is looking for five volunteers who represent the points of view of:
- Local agency, recreation interest
- Local agency, habitat interest
- Citizen at large, recreation interest
Citizen at large, habitat interest (2 positions)
The ideal person understands the public access or restoration needs of aquatic lands and also regularly communicates with people who recreate on these lands. Volunteers should be familiar with waterfront recreation and environmental issues, have the time to participate in committee activities, actively work for win-win solutions, and seek creative outcomes. Committee members may be members of organizations that apply for ALEA grants. Past members also may apply.
Appointed members will serve terms of two to four years and advise RCO on program issues, including grant awards and policies.
When the budget allows, travel expenses are provided. Generally, members attend up to six weekday meetings in the even numbered years to review and evaluate projects. RCO’s goal is to ensure that the committee members represent the full range of Washington’s diversity.

The farmland preservation program, a category within the larger Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program, provides grants to cities and counties to help acquire farmland and restore their ecological function for farming purposes.
The five open positions will represent the point of view of:
- Agriculture, state or federal professional with experience in farming operations, farm conservation programs
- Farmers or ranchers, actively managing and operating a farm or ranch
- Local government, especially cities and counties active in farmland preservation activities
- Individuals knowledgeable in real estate, conservation easements, farmland preservation, land management or land use planning
Ideal candidates understand the needs of the group they represent and regularly communicate with them. Candidates also should be familiar with farmland preservation issues, have the time and interest to participate in committee activities, actively work for win-win solutions, and seek creative outcomes. The review teams give technical comments to improve projects and their work takes place in June. The evaluation teams score projects and their work takes place in late July and early August.
The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) helps fund a broad range of land conservation, park acquisition and development, and construction of outdoor recreation facilities.
RCO is looking for volunteers who represent the points of view of: academics, government (cities, counties, districts, and federal agencies), Native American tribes, non-profit organizations, and citizens with interests in:
- outdoor recreation projects - local parks, trails, water access
- habitat projects – critical habitat, natural areas, riparian protection, urban wildlife habitat
The ideal person has knowledge, expertise, and understanding of the type of project under consideration. For more specific information, please see the WWRP grant category descriptions. Team members may be members of organizations that apply for WWRP grants. Past members also may apply. Appointments are for 2008.

The state Recreation and Conservation Office (RCO) is looking for volunteers to serve on its Nonhighway and Off-Road Vehicle Activities (NOVA) Program advisory committee to evaluate grant proposals and assist with program policy development for NOVA activities.
The NOVA Program provides grants to local, state, and federal agencies to help plan, develop, and maintain facilities for motorized and nonmotorized recreation. The program also supports education and law enforcement grants related to NOVA activities.
RCO is looking for four volunteers to represent the following points of view:
- Fishing and hunting recreationists
- Horse riders
- Nonhighway road recreationists (camping, wildlife viewing, gatherers, etc.)
- Off-road vehicle riders with emphasis on trail motorcycling
Ideal candidates understand the needs of their respective recreational activity and also regularly communicate with them. Candidates should be familiar with trail issues, have the time to participate in committee activities, actively work for win-win solutions, and seek creative outcomes. Committee members may be members in organizations that apply for NOVA grants. Past members also may apply.
Appointed members will serve from March 2008 through December 2010 and advise RCO on program issues, including grant awards and policies.
