Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP)

The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) provides funding for parks, water access sites, trails, wildlife habitat, and farmland preservation.

Funded Projects and Applications
A complete listing of current grant applications and all projects funded in this program can be accessed at our interactive maps feature-Grant Project Locations. Depending on the criteria selected, this mapping feature will provide specific location and detailed project information.  

Eligible Grant Recipients

  • Municipal subdivisions (cities; towns; counties; and port, park and recreation, and school districts)
  • State agencies
  • Tribal governments
Local and tribal governments must provide at least 50 percent matching funds in either cash or in-kind contributions.

*All applicants must have a current parks, recreation, habitat, or open space plan on file to establish eligibility.

Grant Evaluation Process
Grant applications are evaluated in eleven categories:

  • critical habitat
  • farmland
  • local parks
  • natural areas
  • riparian
  • state lands development and renovation
  • state lands restoration and enhancement
  • state parks
  • trails
  • urban wildlife habitat
  • water access
Applications are evaluated in even years in a competitive process by teams with expertise specific to those categories. The Recreation and Conservation Funding Board (RCFB) submits prioritized lists of projects to the Governor and Legislature for final approval. Funds are allocated to each category by formulas established in statute.

Revenue Source
General obligation bonds. Funds are appropriated by the Legislature.
