Boating Infrastructure Grant Program (BIG)

The Boating Infrastructure Grant Program (BIG) provides funding for recreational transient boating facilities, targeting the needs of recreational boats 26 feet and larger.

Funded Projects and Applications
A complete listing of current grant applications and all projects funded in this program can be accessed at our interactive maps feature-Grant Project Locations. Depending on the criteria selected, this mapping feature will provide specific location and detailed project information.  

Eligible Grant Recipients:

  • Counties, cities and towns
  • State agencies
  • Port districts
  • Tribal governments
  • Private marinas with facilities open to the general public
  • Nonprofit organizations such as yacht clubs with facilities open to the general public
Grant recipients must provide at least 25% matching funds in either cash or in-kind contributions.

Grant Evaluation Process:
Grants are to be evaluated based on:

  • how the project addresses the identified needs and priorities of a statewide boating infrastructure plan
  • technical merits
  • public/private partnerships
  • cost efficiency, economic impact
Applications are to be evaluated in a competitive process by a team of experts.

Revenue Source:
A portion of the federal Aquatic Resources Trust Fund as administered by the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
