Boating Facilities Program (BFP)

This page last updated April 2, 2008

Purpose:
Acquire, develop, and renovate boating facilities, including launching ramps, transient moorage, and support facilities on fresh and saltwater.

Funded Projects and Applications
A complete listing of current grant applications and all projects funded in this program can be accessed at our interactive maps feature-Grant Project Locations. Depending on the criteria selected, this mapping feature will provide specific location and detailed project information.

Eligible Grant Recipients:

  • Municipal subdivisions (cities, towns, counties, and port, park and recreation, and school districts)
  • Tribal governments
  • State agencies
Local and tribal government grant recipients must provide at least 25% matching funds in either cash or in-kind contributions.

Eligible Projects:
Acquisition, development, planning, and renovation projects including launching ramps, transient moorage, and upland support facilities.

Grant Evaluation Process:
Funding is divided equally between state and local agency projects. Applications are evaluated in a competitive process by a team of boating representatives. A prioritized list of state agency projects is included in the biennial capital budget but does not require legislative approval. Local agency projects are evaluated and funded annually.

Revenue Source:
Funds come from a portion of the motor vehicle gasoline tax paid by boaters and not refunded as allowed by law.

Please see our interactive boat launch and moorage maps.
