OLYMPIA - The state Interagency Committee for Outdoor Recreation (IAC) is looking for nine volunteers to fill vacancies on three of its advisory committees for parks, trails, wildlife lands and firearm and archery ranges.
The advisory committees make recommendations to IAC on policies, funding and statewide planning for grant programs.
National Recreational Trails Program Advisory Committee
Three volunteers are needed to serve on the advisory committee for the National Recreational Trails Program, which provides grants to maintain backcountry trails and facilities. Generally, advisory committee members attend one weekday meeting a year and spend 10-20 hours evaluating projects for funding. When the budget allows, travel costs will be covered. One person each, representing the following points of view, is needed: Snowmobiling, four-wheeling and activities accessed by a nonhighway road such as fishing, camping, and taking nature walks. The ideal candidate has a statewide perspective in the category represented, is recognized for trail experience and is knowledgeable on trail issues. Candidates should be able to show support from those in the category represented. The appointments are through December 2010.
Land and Water Conservation Fund Advisory Committee
Two volunteers are needed to serve on the advisory committee for the Land and Water Conservation Fund program, which provides grants to preserve and develop outdoor recreation sites including parks, trails and wildlife lands. Generally, members attend up to four weekday meetings a year. When the budget allows, travel costs will be covered. One citizen and one representative of local government are needed. Members are generally appointed for two- to four-year terms. The ideal candidate has interest in outdoor recreation, open space and habitat conservation.
Firearms and Archery Range Recreation Advisory Committee
Four volunteers are needed to serve on the advisory committee for the Firearms and Archery Range Recreation program, which provides to firearm ranges and archery facilities. Generally, members attend up to four weekday meetings a year. Travel costs are covered. One member in each of the following fields is needed: general public with recreational sports shooting experience, hunter education experience, law enforcement experience and shotgun experience. All appointments are through December 2008. The ideal candidate has a statewide perspective in the category represented, is recognized for shooting sports experience and is knowledgeable on issues related to the specific sport. Candidates should be able to show support from those in the category represented.
