How Many Parks are Enough?
State Seeks Comments on Methods to Measure Recreation Needs

OLYMPIA - The Office of the Interagency Committee (OIAC) will host workshops to explore the question of how to measure the need for local, active recreation facilities.

The Legislature has asked the OIAC to recommend a tool that can be used to determine how many local and regional recreation facilities might be needed and at what cost.

OIAC has hired an international consulting firm to help develop methods of measuring need. Called the Level of Service project, the consulting firm is using inventory and participation data from park and recreation plans to test level of service options in six local communities. OIAC is hosting workshops to explain the project and level of service options, present test results and receive comments from the public.
